Quick Guide ~ How to Install Calmira & set it up as the
Win3x Shell
With thanks to http://techknow.vze.com/ for
this extract
Installing Calmira:
1. Open File Manager & create a directory called Calmira on
your C: drive.
2. Extract the Calmira Archive to the new Calmira
directory that you just created.
Setup Calmira as the Win3.1x Shell:
Option #1:
Open the Start Up Group then choose New from the File menu in
Program Manager.
Select the Program Item option & add Calmira.exe to your
Start Up Group. Then restart windows.
NOTE ~ Though Calmira will load at Start Up,
Program Manager will remain the default shell.
Try this option to deside if you like Calmira, before going to
Option #2 which will save on vital resources.
Option #2:
To prevent Program Manager from loading in the background while
Calmira is running, you must use Notepad to edit the system.ini
file located in your \Windows directory. Change the line that
reads "SHELL=PROGMAN.EXE" to "SHELL=C:\CALMIRA\CALMIRA.EXE"
Save these changes then restart windows.
Now Win3.1x will load with Calmira as the default shell &
without Program Manager in the background eating up resources.
To remove Calmira - Change line "SHELL=C:\CALMIRA\CALMIRA.EXE"
back to "SHELL=PROGMAN.EXE"
it's that simple!
Option #3:
There is an easier way to change the shell...Close all programs
in preparation for restarting Windows. Start Calmira if it is not
already running. Click the Start button Select "Shut
down". In the dialog that comes up, double-click the picture
of a computer in the upper-left corner of the dialog. Windows
will then restart, and when it comes back up again, you'll have
Calmira as your shell.
Option #3 does the work of Option #2 for you!
